Rashad Khalifa who is teaching a Christianized form of Islaam have mistranslated the key verse (Qur’aan 24:31) to conceal the fact that Allah has prescribed the head-cover for the woman. Here is Rashad Khalifa’s false translation and when his cult followers read it, they will never detect that Allah has prescribed the head-cover.
Rashad Khalifa has been going around preaching that Muslim women are not supposed to cover up their hair. He teaches this is not a religious requirement. He never provided a detailed lingustic analysis, comprehensive explaination, or convincing evidence to justy why he translated Qur’aan 24:31 in a manner that omits any reference to the khimar (head-cover). He intentionally ignores that word and translate that passage to say: “They shall cover their chests”. Rashad Khalifa have dupped a lot of Muslims that follow Qur’aan alone to believe this without any form of evidence. And the sad thing is a lot of Qur’aan alone Muslims followed him in his madness. This omission is significant because the verse does not merely command women to cover their chests; it instructs them to draw their khumur بِخُمُر (plural of khimar خمار ) over their bosoms:
Therefore, any interpretation that removes the khimar from the discussion bears the burden of demonstrating from the Arabic text why such a reading is justified. Unfortunately, many Muslims that uphold Qur’aan alone accepted this interpretation without demanding evidence, linguistic proof, or a careful examination of the Arabic language. As a result, numerous Muslims were led to believe that the head-cover mentioned in Qur'aan 24:31 has no relevance to the verse, even though the word khumur بِخُمُر head-coverings appears explicitly within the Qur'aanic text itself.
Before I present the correct translation, it is important to understand that many Muslims in the modern era call the head-cover a “hijab”. The Arabic word “hijab” does not exists in Qur’aan 24:31 and this is not the original name for the head-cover. The word “hijab” is a modern term, the Muslims during Prophet Muhammad’s era never called the “head-cover” a hijab, they called it a khimar. Again, the original word is “khimar”. In the present or modern time, a lot of Muslims have added their customs, traditions and cultural norms or expressions to the word “khimar” which has removed it from its original meaning in the Qur’aan. The Arabic word in the Qur’aan is very simple to understand, it just simply means “head-cover” and what we call a “hijab” today, this is what is meant in Qur’aan 24:31 where we see the original word “khumur بِخُمُرِ head-coverings” (plural) – with this foundation established, let us now examine the correct translation of the verse:
The Arabic word in that verse has always been known to mean a “head-cover” since the days or remotest antiquity. In the Classical Arabic Dictionary of the Qur’aan compiled by Abdul Mannan Omar, page 166, properly defines khimar as a “head-cover”:
The significance of this point cannot be overstated. Qur'aan 24:31 does not merely instruct believing women to cover their bosoms; it specifically commands them to draw their khumur بِخُمُر (plural of khimar خمار ) over their bosoms. The verse therefore presupposes the existence of a head-covering and instructs believing women regarding how it is to be worn. If Allah had intended to refer only to covering the chest, there would have been no need to mention the khumur بِخُمُر (head-coverings) at all. Consequently, any translation or interpretation that omits the meaning of khimar as a head-covering departs from the plain wording of the Arabic text and obscures an important element of the instruction contained in the verse. The evidence from the Arabic language is straightforward: khimar خمار means a head-cover, and this has been the recognized meaning of the word since the days of remotest antiquity that this bootleg reformer (Rashad Khalifa) has concealed.
